Alabama veteran education benefits
Stars rate how much each state offers veterans themselves for college, training and exam fees (family-only programs don't count): 5 = free public-college tuition for most resident veterans, no disability rating needed; 3 = partial grants or narrower eligibility; 1 = little or nothing beyond federal benefits. How we rate
Strong dependents' scholarship for 40%+ disabled vets' families, but nothing broad for veterans themselves beyond an optional Purple Heart waiver.

No broad tuition benefit for veterans themselves. Purple Heart waiver has no discharge-date limit but is optional for each school. Dependents' scholarship has no time-since-discharge limit if the veteran meets the residency tests (e.g., 1 yr AL residency before entry + 2 yrs current residency) and is rated 40%+.
